Disclaimer: Movie Review. Reading this could cause loud disagreement's and a tankful of rotten tomatoes.
Before I have to write a piece waxing lyricals about the movie (totally optional though) I have to siphon all negative feelings it.
Okay, so the Oscarness was probably radiating off the screen .You can almost hear it between the iambic pentameter screenplay. “Pick me! MEEEE!”
I agree that the set was wow and the costume were even better and all the little details that the director bothered to fill in. The cinematography was lovely right down to the cobblestones in the street but the whole plot was so flimsy.
Like wet tissue paper.
It’s being held up by eye candy and I don’t think I can deal with it. Strip away all the dust and glory and nothing will be there.
Perhaps you argue that the romance was overwhelming and Gwyneth Paltrow with Joseph Fiennes simply exuded chemistry and pureness and what not.
Love at first sight? Can a film be held up by passion alone?
I think not.
Twirling capes and hidden scandals may all be very well but here in this film it just fell a little flat.
